Aaaaand exhale. I did it.
On December 23, 2014 I finished up my position at Slide with the non-negotiable promise to myself to survive 2015 on income made only by performing. At that stage last year I only had two gigs for 2015 booked. I was nervous about the future but knew I had to rebalance the scales, focus on my career and challenge myself. Nothing propels you to work harder than letting go of the safety net which, in my case, was a weekly pay check.
It's truly amazing what happens when you put yourself out there to the universe. You can do everything you put your mind to.
Shortly after the new year I was cast in the Australian premiere of 5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche Australia at BRISBANE POWERHOUSE which went on to do two return seasons including Glitter Festival GC, MC'd WIDGEFEST, was invited to sing at HATS OFF | Sydney (bucket list!), crowdfunded and released my debut album and launched it at Glen Street Theatre, returned to Festival of Voices, returned to Noosa Longweekend as their Ambassador for the second year (best job I've ever had which allowed me to program and spruik the brilliant work of industry colleagues, create a new show with Andrew Worboys and introduce my friends Los Nachos Trios to the world), began working with Leave It To Diva which included developing new shows and touring to Uluru, returned to Slide to perform and host various events including my favourite - COVERGIRL, created a hot new girl group with Tina Harris and Bev Kennedy, did various Bette gigs, toured GO YOUR OWN WAY: The Story of Christine McVie to Western Australia, programmed myself into Tamworth Country Music Festival, performed at numerous regional theatre season launches with Jeremy Brennan and did my first ever Christmas Carols event!
It has been an incredible year. Thrilling, challenging, exhausting, exciting, nerve-wracking, heartbreaking and fun. I've worked with the most wonderful people who have taught me an entire world of new things, I've employed friends, have been employed by friends, and have had the time of my life. Here's to much more.
THANK YOU to everyone I've worked with this year. I couldn't have done it without you, and certainly couldn't have done it without the support and love of my family and friends. You know who you are.
Now, speaking of more, there's something else we've been working on all year which I'm excited to announce. After 6 years, The Divine Miss Bette! is going on tour across NSW and QLD. Who knew this show would have so much life. Things take time. Never give up.
I read a quote earlier this year that resonated deeply. In the words of Peter Brock, "Bite off more than you can chew, and then chew like hell!".
Looking at 2016, it's kicking off considerably busier than this time last year, so let's see what happens next!
Happy new year and keep powering,
